The group's principal activity is to produce and market coal from coal surface mines in Montana, North Dakota and Texas. It owns five mines: absaloka mine, rosebud mine, jewett mine, beulah mine and savage mine. The group also owns interests in cogeneration and other non-regulated independent power plants. The group's major customers include Texas genco and the owners of colstrip units 3&4, which includes avista corporation, northwestern corporation, pacificorp, portland general electric company, ppl Montana llc and puget sound energy inc.
