The group's principal activity is to produce and sell specialty and intermediate chemicals to other manufacturers for use in a variety of end products. The group has three reportable segments: surfactants, polymers and specialty products. Surfactants are the key ingredients in consumer and industrial cleaning compounds. These products are used by manufacturers of detergents, shampoos, lotions, toothpaste and cosmetics who depend on surfactants to achieve the foaming and cleaning qualities required for the products. Other applications include lubricating ingredients and emulsifiers for agricultural products, plastics and composites. Polymers segment supplies phthalic anhydride, a commodity chemical intermediate that is used in polyester alkyd resins and plasticizers. Specialty products include flavors, emulsifiers and solubilizers used in food and pharmaceutical industries.
