The group's principal activity is to distribute and transport natural gas in southern California as well as parts of central California. The group offers two basic utility services: sale of natural gas and transportation of natural gas. Natural gas service of the group is also provided on a wholesale basis to the distribution systems of the city of long beach and san diego gas and electric company. The group also provides storage services to utility electric generation and large industrial and commercial customers. Core customers of the group are primarily residential and small commercial and industrial customers, without alternative fuel capability. The noncore customers consist primarily of utility electric generation, wholesale, large commercial, industrial and off-system customers.
