The group's principal activities are hog production and pork processing. The group's product line includes leaner fresh pork products as well as lower-fat and lower-salt processed meats.The group operates through six reporting segments including pork, beef, international, hog production (HP), other and corporate. In April 2006, the group acquired the assets of Cook’s Hams, Inc. for approximately $260.0 million plus an additional $41.0 million for working capital buildup. In May 2005 (fiscal 2006), the group and ContiGroup Companies, Inc. (ContiGroup) completed the formation of Five Rivers, a 50/50 joint venture between their respective cattle feeding businesses, MFI and ContiBeef. The group markets itsproducts in the United States, Europe, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico and South Korea. Out of the total sales of the group pork accounted for $7300.6 million, beef accounted for $2599.0 million, international accounted for $1127.4 million, hog production accounted for $1801.3 million, and others stood at $149.2 million.
