The group's principal activity is to develop, manufacture and distribute biochemical, organic chemicals, chromatography products and diagnostic reagents. The chemical products and kits of the group are used in scientific and genomic research, biotechnology, chemical industry and pharmaceutical development and for the diagnosis of diseases. The group lists over 85,000 products, which are sold under various brand names, such as, sigma, aldrich, fluka, riedel-de haen and supelco. In 2003, the products of the group were sold to approximately 60,000 customers including hospitals, universities, clinical laboratories, pharmaceutical companies and private and government research laboratories. The group operates in 34 countries including the United States, Australia, Belgium, France Germany and some other foreign countries. On 14-Apr-2004, the group acquired ultrafine and tetrionics.
