The group's principal activity is to own and operate short line freight railroads in North America and regional freight railroad in Australia. It owns 47 railroads with approximately 11,900 miles in the United States, Australia and Canada. It operates 37 short line railroads properties and one tourist railroad in the United States. It also transports goods such as coal, lumber and forest products, agricultural and farm products and paper products. On 25-Jan-2004, the group acquired Central Michigan Railway Company.
