The group operates in three divisions: insurance, investment & closed block business. The insurance division consists of the individual life insurance and annuities and group insurance. The investment division consists of the investment management, financial advisory, mutual funds, retirement and other asset management services. The closed block business includes traditional participating insurance products. The group serves more than 15 million individual and institutional customers in the United States and over 30 other countries. On 01-May-2003, the group acquired skandia U.S. Inc.
