The group's northern and central California energy utility subsidiary, pacific gas and electric company, delivers electric service to approximately 4.6 million customers and natural gas service to approximately 3.8 million customers. On Sept 20, 2001, the pacific gas and electric company and the group jointly filed with the bankruptcy court a proposed plan of reorganization of the pacific gas and electric company under chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code. After the reorganization, pacific gas and electric company would operate as a stand-alone electric and gas distribution business. Energy commodities and services accounted for 54% of 2001 revenues and electric utility, 46%.
