The group's principal activity is to provide credit enhancement & other products that promote homeownership and facilitate mortgage transactions in the capital markets. It operates its business in four segments, us mortgage insurance operations: offers mortgage insurance products in the us. International operations: offers mortgage insurance and other credit enhancement products in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. Financial guaranty: the group's subsidiary fgic corp provides financial guaranty insurance. Other: consists of holding company and contract underwriting revenue and expenses, equity in earnings primarily from unconsolidated strategic investment fairbanks. In oct 2003, the group reached a definitive agreement to sell its subsidiary American pioneer title insurance company. On 18-Dec-2003, the group acquired financial guaranty insurance company.
