The group's principal activity is to deliver electric and natural gas services to customers through its subsidiary, pacific gas and electric company. The group provides electric and natural gas services to 9 million customers respectively in California. Other services provided by the group are power generation and development, wholesale energy marketing and trading, risk management and natural gas transmission. On Sept 20, 2001, the pacific gas and electric company and the group jointly filed with the bankruptcy court a proposed plan of reorganization of the pacific gas and electric company under chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code. After the reorganization, pacific gas and electric company would operate as a stand-alone electric and gas distribution business.
