The group's principal activities are to design, develop and manufacture advanced biocompatible stent coatings and drug-delivery technologies. These medical devices are used to treat cardiovascular disorder caused by narrowing or blockage of coronary arteries. Stents are compressible tubular devices that are mounted on a balloon catheter, inserted into the circulatory system by a team of cardiologists, and directed to the location of a blocked coronary artery. The MIVI laser-cut stent is specifically designed and engineered to be used as a drug and therapeutics delivery platform to combat cardiovascular disease, including restenosis.
