The company's principal activities are to explore, develop, market, transport, process and sell crude oil, natural gas, synthetic crude oil and a range of derivative products in North America and internationally. The company operates in three business segments: upstream operations, midstream operations and refined products. Upstream segment explores and produces light, medium and heavy crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids from the company's 1,129 wells. Midstream segment focuses on upgrading of heavy crude oil feedstock into synthetic crude oil, marketing, development of pipelines and infrastructure facilities to support the upstream operations. Refined products segment refines crude oil and markets the refined petroleum products. Midstream accounted for 60% of 2001 revenues; upstream, 25% and refined products, 15%.
