The group's principal activity is to provide consumer lending products. The group operates in four segments: consumer, credit card services, international and all other. The consumer segment consists of lending, mortgage services, retail services and auto finance businesses. The credit card services segment consists of domestic mastercard and visa credit card business. The international segment consists of foreign operations in the United Kingdom, Canada and Europe. This segment offers secured and unsecured lines of credit and secured and unsecured closed-end loans primarily in the United Kingdom and Canada. The group's all other segment services include insurance and tax services, direct lending and commercial operations, corporate and treasury activities. On Mar 28, 2003, the group merged with hsbc holdings plc and became a wholly-owned subsidiary.
