The group's principal activities are to provide investment banking, institutional brokerage, asset management and private client services through its operating subsidiaries. In addition, the group invests in mortgage-backed securities and merchant banking opportunities. The group focuses capital and financial expertise on six industry sectors: financial services, real estate, technology, healthcare, energy and diversified industrials. In mar 2003, the group merged with fbr asset investment corporation. As a result of the merger, the group will elect reit status for tax purposes. Fbr asset investment corporation is a real estate investment trust that invests in mortgage-backed securities and makes opportunistic investments in debt and equity securities of companies in real estate-related and other businesses.
