The group's principal activity is to offer versatile portfolio of compound semiconductor products for the broadband and wireless communications and solid-state lighting markets. The group operates in two business units: the systems-related business unit designs, develops and manufactures tools and manufacturing processes used to fabricate compound semiconductor wafer and devices. The materials-related business unit designs, develops and manufactures compound semiconductor materials that enable circuits and devices to operate at radio frequencies. The group's products include mocvd tools, optical devices, photodetectors, vcsel-based array transceivers and transponders, rf and electronic materials and solar cells. In fiscal 2003, the group acquired certain assets of privately held alvesta corporation, agere systems, inc.'s catv transmission systems, telecom access and satcom components business and molex inc.'s 10g ethernet transceiver business.
