The group's principal activities are to explore, extract and transport natural gas and market energy and energy related commodities. It operates through four segments: merchant energy, pipelines, field services and production. Merchant energy segment has three divisions: global power, petroleum and energy trading and also operates three refineries. Pipelines segment owns or has interest in approximately 60,000 miles of interstate natural gas pipelines and provides gas transmission services. Field services conducts midstream activities. Production segment conducts natural gas and oil exploration and production. The group leases approximately four million net acres in 16 states in the United States. The group operates in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Bolivia, hungary and Indonesia. On 26-Aug-2003, the group acquired copper eagle gas storage, llc.
