The group's principal activity is to provide a wide range of product development services, on a worldwide basis, primarily to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. The group also provides laboratory-testing services to the chemical, agrochemical and food industries. The operations of the group are carried out through two segments. The early development services segment includes preclinical and phase i clinical service capabilities. This involves evaluating a new compound for safety and early effectiveness as well as evaluating the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of the compound in the human body. The late-stage development services segment includes central laboratory, clinical development, commercialization and other clinical support services.
