The group's principal activity is to operate and manage prisons, other correctional facilities and provide inmate residential and prisoner transportation services for governmental agencies. In addition, the group offers a variety of rehabilitation and educational programs, including basic education, life skills and employment training and substance abuse treatment. These services are intended to help reduce recidivism and to prepare inmates for their successful reentry into society upon their release. The group also provides health care (including medical, dental and psychiatric services), food services, work and recreational programs. The customers of the group include local, state and federal correctional and detention authorities. At 30-Jun-2004 the group owned 41 correctional, detention and juvenile facilities and operated 65 facilities, including 38 facilities with a total design capacity of approximately 66,000 beds in 20 states and district of columbia.
