The group's principal activities are to develop, manufacture and market research systems to study proteins. The group's technology, proteinchip(R) system, enables protein discovery, characterization and assay development. The products include the proteinchip biology system, for protein analysis; proteinchip biomarker system and biomarker patterns (TM) software for advanced protein expression profiling; proteinchip tandem ms interface for advanced identification work using tandem mass spectrometry and automation accessories. The group also produces bioprocessors, spin columns and assorted kits designed for proteomics research. It has a joint venture with sumitomo corporation, ciphergen biosystems kk, to distribute its products in Japan. The products are sold to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and government research laboratories.
