The group's principal activity is to provide research tools and integrated support services that enable drug discovery and development. The group operates in two segments research models and services (rms) and development and safety testing (dst). Research models and services business is comprised of the commercial production and sale of animal research models, principally purpose-bred rats, mice and other rodents for use by researchers. These research models are bred and maintained in a biosecure environment designed to ensure that the animals are free of specific viral and bacterial agents and other contaminants that can disrupt research operations and distort results. Discovery is followed by development activities, which are directed at demonstrating the safety and efficacy of the selected drug candidates. Discovery and development represent most of the pre-clinical activities in drug development. On 08-Jan-2004, the group acquired river valley farms inc.
