The group's principal activity is to purchase, produce, transmit, distribute and market electricity in New Hampshire and Vermont. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Connecticut valley electric company inc, distributes and sells electricity in parts of New Hampshire bordering the Connecticut river. The group also owns a portion of Vermont electric power company inc that owns Vermont's high voltage transmission system and Vermont yankee nuclear power corporation a nuclear generating company. Another wholly owned non-utility subsidiary, catamount resources corporation, holds the group's subsidiaries that invest in unregulated business opportunities. The group owns and operates 20 hydroelectric generating facilities in Vermont with a capacity of 44.7 mw serving 148,164 customers and jointly owns four other facilities. It also owns two oil-fired and one diesel-peaking unit with a combined capacity of 28.9 mw.
