The group's principal activities are to generate, transmit and distribute energy and other energy related businesses. It operates in four segments: avista utilities, energy trading and marketing, avista advantage and other segment. The avista utilities segment generates, transmits and distributes electricity and distributes natural gas. It also engages in wholesale purchases and sales of electric capacity and energy. The energy trading and marketing segment engages in electricity and natural gas marketing and trading business. Avista advantage provides utility bill processing, payment and information services. Other segment is responsible for investing in business opportunities. During 2003 the group discontinued avista labs.
