The group's principal activities are the exploration, development and production of natural gas, crude oil and natural gas liquids. The exploration and production activities are divided into three U.S. Operating regions (offshore, southern and mid continent) and a Canadian region. The exploration and production interests are focused on the gulf of Mexico, the anadarko basin, the permian basin, the gulf coast and the western sedimentary basin of Canada. Approximately 80 percent of the group's proved reserves are located in North America. The group has international exploration and production interests in offshore western Australia, egypt, offshore the People's Republic of China, Argentina and Poland. On 2-Apr-2003, the group acquired producing properties in the north sea, gulf of Mexico from bp plc and on 3-Jul-2003, properties from shell exploration and production company.
