Yadira Rivera-Cintron is Counsel in the Corporate Practice Group since 2006 and a member of the Government Affairs Practice Area. She is also a member of the Financial Institutions and Insurance Practice Areas.
Practice and Experience:
Ms. Rivera-Cintron's areas of practice include insurance regulatory matters, financial institutions, white collar crimes and government affairs.
As part of her practice, Ms. Rivera-Cintron has developed significant expertise in regulatory matters concerning the insurance and financial institutions industries where she has advised international banking entities, insurance companies and producers, service contract providers, life settlement providers and trade associations. She has also worked in complex corporate transactions such as change of control and demutualization of insurers.
Ms. Rivera-Cintron has also been actively participating in the approval of pivotal legislation devised to improve the regulatory framework surrounding the insurance and financial industries.
Experience:
Before joining McConnell Valdes, Ms. Rivera-Cintron was Director of Legal Affairs of the Office of the Insurance Commissioner of Puerto Rico. Prior to this she served as Legal Counsel of the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Institutions of Puerto Rico. Before this appointment, she was Assistant District Attorney in the White Collar Crimes Division of the Puerto Rico Department of Justice.
From 1999 to 2000 Ms. Rivera-Cintron served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Baltasar Corrada del Rio, Associate Justice of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court.
Education:
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Communications, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Puerto Rico in 1994. She obtained a Juris Doctor from the University Of Puerto Rico School Of Law in 1998 where she was a member of the University of Puerto Rico Law Review from 1996-1998.
Admissions:
Admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
