Dr. Rybka is a Professor of Medicine and Pathology at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and the Penn State Cancer Institute, where he serves as Chief of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Medical Director of the Institute, and Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. He is an internationally known expert in acute leukemia, bone marrow transplantation and transplantation immunosuppression.
Dr. Rybka is Principal Investigator for the Penn State Cancer Institute in the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG). He previously was an investigator in the Cancer and Adult Leukemia Group (CALGB) and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP). He has served as the Treasurer and Vice President of the Canadian Bone Marrow Transplant Group, Councilor and Treasurer of the Association of Hematologists and Oncologists of Quebec, Chief Examiner for Hematology and Medical Oncology for the Quebec College of Physicians, and Board Member for the Pennsylvania Cancer Alliance. He is currently President of the Pennsylvania Society for Oncology and Hematology (2006-2008), Board Member for the Pennsylvania Cancer Control Consortium representing multidisciplinary cancer care providers, and Board Member for the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America.
Dr. Rybka received his medical degree from the University of Toronto. He completed Internal Medicine training as well as a fellowship in Hematology at the Montreal General Hospital of McGill University followed by a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center of the University of Washington in Seattle. He held a faculty appointment at McGill University, establishing the second Bone Marrow Transplant Program in Canada at the Montreal General Hospital in 1979. This was followed by a faculty appointment at The University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute in 1991, where he served as the Medical Director of the Adult Marrow Transplant Program. Dr. Rybka has been on the faculty of the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and the Penn State Cancer Institute since 1996. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Diplomate of the Quebec College of Physicians, and Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine with certification in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. |
