Willie Guerrero joined Kahn, Soares & Conway, LLP after a distinguished career in state government. Given his breadth of experience, Willie is working with the firm's Governmental Advocacy Group as well as developing a new area of practice in Election/Political Law.
A state capitol veteran since 1992, Willie has served as Chief of Staff for Assemblywoman Gloria Romero (D - Los Angeles), Principal Consultant for State Senator Carole Migden (D - San Francisco), Chief Consultant for the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy, and Chief Consultant for the Assembly Committee on Elections, Reapportionment and Constitutional Amendments. It was during his service on the Elections Committee that he developed an expertise in election and political law. His work in this arena subsequently led to an appointment as Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative and Constituent Affairs.
While at the Secretary of State's Office, Willie developed and drafted key election reform legislation, testified before various legislative committees, and lobbied legislators and administration officials on behalf of the agency.
A native of Northern California, Willie graduated from Stanford University with a double major in Political Science and History. As a student, he studied abroad in Krakow, Poland and dedicated his free time to state and local political campaigns. Upon graduation he was selected from a statewide pool of applicants for the prestigious California State Senate Fellows Program. His placement in the office of State Senator Mike Thompson (D - Napa), offered a rewarding first glimpse of the inner workings of state government.
Following his year-long fellowship, Willie headed to UCLA School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate. During this time he served on the Chicano/Latino Law Review and completed an externship with the Senate Committee on Criminal Procedure.
Willie also operated his own general practice law firm in Sacramento. As a sole practitioner, he gained valuable experience representing clients with divergent legal needs.
An avid sports fan, particularly anything involving his alma maters, Willie loves to watch games of any sort with his family. Willie and his wife Erin, and their children, Samantha and Nathaniel, reside in West Sacramento.
