William "Bill" Patterson is immediate past President of the East Bay Municipal Utility District’s Board of Directors. Under his leadership during the last two years, the District achievements reached new heights. He was initially appointed by the EBMUD Board of Directors in September of 1997 to fill the un-expired term of Director Ken Simmons. He was elected to continue as the representative for Ward 6, which includes Alameda County's East Oakland Hills and south of Lake Merritt to the San Leandro city boundary, in 1998 and was re-elected in 2000 and 2004.
Patterson is Vice-President of EBMUD's Retirement Board. He is widely recognized as one of Oakland’s civic champions. He has been actively involved in many political campaigns and community organizations for more than four decades. He is a past president of the Oakland NAACP. He is a retired Oakland Parks and Recreation manager, who has been credited widely by many superstar athletes who have gone on to gain Hall of Fame recognition, including the likes of basketball’s Bill Russell and baseball’s Joe Morgan. He was also a close confidant and advisor to the late Oakland Mayor Lionel Wilson, the city’s first African American mayor. He served on the Oakland's Public Ethics and Parks and Recreation Commissions.
Patterson received his bachelor and masters degrees from San Francisco State University. He resides in Oakland with his family and remains active in numerous community activities. He has received numerous awards in recognition of his accomplishments from governmental, community and political organizations. |
