William Gaede is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Silicon Valley office. Bill is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department where he serves as chair of our Life Sciences & Medical Devices Practice Group. He also serves as co-hiring partner for the Silicon Valley office.
Bill's practice focuses in the areas of intellectual property litigation in the life sciences and pharmaceutical industries. Bill has 16 years of experience in all facets of litigation. Over the last eight years, he has served as lead counsel for a wide range of companies and research institutes in the life sciences and pharmaceutical industries. He has also argued before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.
Bill also served as temporary Deputy District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco. While in law school, Bill was elected to the Thurston Society and served on the Hastings Moot Court Board. Additionally, Bill served as an extern to the Honorable Stanley A. Weigel of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.
Bill's addition to the Firm was recognized as one of the ten most significant lateral moves in the U.S. in 2005 in The American Lawyer's feature, "Star Laterals of the Year." He is recognized in the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in America published by Woodward White in both biotechnology law and intellectual property law. Bill is a member of the State Bar of California, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers and the San Francisco Bar Association.
