William Ackerman, former Chief Counsel, Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (MOLAGERS), has recently returned to Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo. Mr. Ackerman has more than twenty years of experience with public employee retirement systems, both as the Personnel Manager for the City of Fountain Valley, California from 1978 to 1989, and in his capacity as Chief Counsel for MOLAGERS. As Chief Counsel, Mr. Ackerman advised and represented the Board of Trustees and management on a wide variety of legal matters related to the governance and administration of the system. MOLAGERS is a government employee defined benefit plan with assets in excess of $4 billion which serves more than 47,000 active and retired employees from 550 political subdivisions throughout the state of Missouri. Prior to joining MOLAGERS, Mr. Ackerman served as Legal Counsel to the Director of the Missouri Department of Insurance. He was involved in a variety of regulatory and compliance matters involving insurers, agents, brokers, and third party administrators. An accomplished speaker, Mr. Ackerman regularly speaks to public employee groups about retirement planning and related issues.
