William P. Crawford, Jr. joined The South Financial Group in April 2002. He serves as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, primarily responsible for SEC-related matters, the legal aspects of M&A, and financing activities. Mr. Crawford oversees the Company’s litigation matters, banking and wealth management compliance matters, and day-to-day legal activities of the Company.
From 1989 until 2001, Mr. Crawford was a member of the law firm of Wyche, Burgess, Freeman & Parham, P.A. where he concentrated in securities, M&A, corporate finance, and venture capital transactions. During this time, he served as the primary counsel for The South Financial Group for its corporate transactions. From 2001 until joining The South Financial Group, Mr. Crawford served as Assistant General Counsel at Bowater Incorporated, a public company headquartered in Greenville, SC.
Mr. Crawford graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor and masters degree in piano performance and received his law degree from Harvard. He is Vice Chairman of the Board of the South Carolina Governor’s School of the Arts Foundation and active in the Carolina Youth Symphony. He continues to perform occasional solo and chamber recitals and has released a classical CD entitled Two Octaves Down.
