William L. Reed is vice president, development for Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services. The Sempra Energy companies' 13,500 employees serve 29 million consumers worldwide. In his current position, which he has held since December 2006, Reed is responsible for identifying and developing new market opportunities for Sempra Energy and focusing on the long-term direction of the company. Prior to his current job, Reed was senior vice president of regulatory and strategic planning for San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), Sempra Energy’s California regulated utilities. There, he oversaw regulatory issues at the state and federal levels, as well as strategic planning. Prior to that, Reed was senior vice president of regulatory affairs from 1998 to 2004. Previously, Reed served as vice president and chief regulatory officer for Sempra Energy, overseeing the company’s regulatory affairs nationwide. Prior to the formation of Sempra Energy in 1998, Reed was vice president of governmental and regulatory affairs at SDG&E and at its holding company, Enova Corp. Since joining SDG&E in 1977, Reed has also served as vice president of strategic planning and has held positions at SDG&E in legal and bulk power operations. Reed is currently a board member of the San Diego Children’s Choir, the San Diego Regional Energy Office and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. He has a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in Ohio and a law degree from Western State University in San Diego. |
