Bill Donovan was appointed Senior Vice President, Business Transformation Office, for Nortel in December 2005. In this role, Bill is responsible for leading the company's efforts to increase overall business velocity and effectiveness through process improvements, efficiencies, and new revenue generation. As part of this role he leads cross-functional teams focused on business simplification and best practices in the areas of Sales, Supply Chain, Services, Research & Development, General & Administrative, and Workforce Effectiveness.
Prior to this appointment, Bill served as Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources, for Nortel beginning in October 2000. In this role, Bill was responsible for helping the company achieve its strategic business goals and market-growth targets by creating and leading the company's overall global talent strategy for Nortel's workforce operating in more than 65 countries worldwide. As part of his role, Bill also supported the Vice-Chairman and CEO of the company and worked with his cabinet to ensure business goals were met. In addition, he led the company's initiative on reducing its cost structure.
Prior to this appointment and since November 1999, Bill served as Vice President, Global Human Resources for Nortel's Service Provider and Carrier Group. In this role, Bill had end-to-end responsibility for all Human Resources functions for Nortel's largest global business.
Bill previously served as Vice President, Human Resources, Global Compensation & Benefits at Nortel, a position he held since February 1998. In this role, Bill had full responsibility for all Compensation, Executive Compensation, Benefits, Leadership Development, Mergers, Acquisition and Divestiture activities throughout the world. In addition, Bill had responsibility for Nortel's Executive Development and Staffing organization.
Prior to his Global Compensation & Benefits role, Bill served as Vice President, Human Resources for Public Carrier Networks (PCN).
Bill joined Nortel in 1985 and has held a number of HR leadership positions supporting Switching, NTI Marketing and Transmission as well as Staffing, Compensation and HR Information Systems.
Prior to joining Nortel, Bill was Director of Human Resources for Avnet, Inc. (1983-1985), where he was responsible for all HR related activities. He was with Litton Industries New Britain Tool Division (1981-1983) as Divisional Director of Human Resources for multiple facilities, and then as Plant Manager for the Manufacturing/ Distribution facility. From 1979 to 1981, Bill was Manager, Industrial Relations with Scovil, Inc. - Hamilton Beach Division.
He holds an MBA from Campbell University and a BSBA from East Carolina University. He lives in Cary, North Carolina with his wife, and they have three children.
