Bill has maintained an active trial and appellate litigation practice in state and federal courts across the country from his office in Portland. He is currently serving as lead counsel for the State of California’s energy regulators in proceedings before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, as lead counsel for the defendants in a series of ERISA class actions consolidated in an MDL proceeding in the Eastern District of Tennessee, and as lead defense counsel in qui tam and class proceedings in Massachusetts and New York. Recently, he secured a $60 million recovery for Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company in two suits culminating in a trial in Delaware. He has lost only two trials in twenty-six years. In addition to his regular trial work, he has argued thirty-five cases on appeal, including two to the U.S. Supreme Court, prevailing fully in twenty-nine of those appeals. Bill was described this year by Chambers USA, in its annual Client’s Guide for America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, as the leader of the pack, with clients remarking that he is a strategic expert who has the ability to address simultaneous problems on a number of levels. |
