Mr. William Powers has nearly 50 years of experience as a geologist and the manager of the optical microscopy group. Project work includes the determination of asbestos minerals in bulk materials and soil samples, quantitative mineralogy of building materials by light microscopy for litigation services, determinative mineralogy of rock quarry samples by light microscopy, petrographic examination of refractory materials for the steel industry, on-site laboratory assessor for asbestos certification under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program of the US Department of Commerce, and forensic study of gunshot residue by a primer manufacturer. Prior, Mr. Powers was a research engineer with US Steel Corporation for 27 years. He was primarily involved in mineral identification of bulk materials utilizing polarized light microscopy. He has a broad background in mineralogy, geology, and mineral processing. Mr. Powers is a member of the Society of Mining Engineers. He holds four patents and has published in peer-reviewed literature. |
