William G. Reed, Jr. has been one of our directors since 1974 and served as our Lead Director from May 2000 until the 2004 annual meeting. Mr. Reed was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Safeco from January 30, 2001 until January 1, 2003, and served as our Acting Chairman and Acting Chief Executive Officer for a one-month period from January 1, 2001 through January 30, 2001. Mr. Reed was the Chairman of Simpson Investment Company, a forest products holding company, until his retirement in 1996. He also is a director of Green Diamond Resource Company, a forest products company, PACCAR Inc., a truck manufacturing company, and Washington Mutual, Inc., a financial services company, and its subsidiary, Washington Mutual Bank. |
