Bill has more than 25 years of experience in manufacturing management and manufacturing engineering; fifteen of those years were spent in management and executive positions. Bill is recognized for his ability to assure customer satisfaction while improving profitability. He has expertise in Advanced Product Planning, Launch Support and Statistical Problem Solving. Professional Experience In the late 90s, Bill was recruited to become the Director of Supplier Quality for the General Motors (GM) North American Operations Midlux car group in Flint, MI. As GM reorganized, he was also given responsibility for the GMNAO Small Car Group. In all, Bill and his team were responsible for over 1200 suppliers shipping to 8 assembly plants. During his time there, Bill became an advocate for the implementation of statistical problem solving within the GM supply base. In the early 90s Bill led the Saturn Supplier Development and Supplier Quality Groups. In this position, he established the Saturn University Supplier College in order to train suppliers in the Saturn Production System. He led implementation of the Saturn Supplier Performance Indicator. (Supplier performance was rated and improved in order to meet Saturn’s high standards.) As Saturn began introducing new product programs Bill developed a supplier launch risk model that focused team efforts on high-risk products and suppliers. He was also the Saturn liaison to the University of Tennessee’s Tennessee Manufacturing Extension Program where he assisted in establishing strategic vision for developing programs in order to help improve Tennessee’s manufacturing base. At Saturn Corporation Bill assumed the leadership of Product Development Teams for Transmission Component Manufacturing. In this position he led a team of engineers that combined traditional processes with leading edge technologies to create a lean and flexible manufacturing system. Bill combined strong project management with a skilled team to deliver a robust, validated system on time and below budget. Bill began his manufacturing management career at the Harrison Radiator Division of Delphi. In this assignment he was responsible for managing operations that included precision machining and light assembly. His performance and demonstrated ability to improve efficiencies, reduce scrap and meet schedules in a union environment earned him a senior position in manufacturing engineering. One of his proudest achievements at Harrison’s operations in Dayton, Ohio was the Quality Circle; employee cost reduction suggestions were acted upon to save 150 jobs. |
