William F. Looney, Jr. concentrates on the trial of both civil and criminal cases in both the Federal and State systems, particularly civil and criminal tax and securities matters, business disputes and disputes involving trusts and estates. However, Bill also represents clients in a wide variety of non-trial matters both corporate and personal.A founder of the firm, Bill was born in Boston September 20, 1931. He graduated from Boston Latin School in 1949 and, with honors, from Harvard College in 1953. After serving his military commitment as an artillery officer with the First Armored Division in Ford Hood, Texas, he returned to Harvard Law School from which he graduated in 1958. After a year’s clerkship with R. Ammi Cutter, Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, three years as an Associate at the Boston law firm, Goodwin, Procter & Hoar, and three years as a Federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, he entered private practice where he has remained ever since.Bill is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a former President of the Boston Bar Association. He has been a very active member of the Boston Latin School Association. He founded, and for many years, was president and chairman of the Boston Latin School Foundation. He has received an award for professionalism from the Boston Bar Association and was honored as a distinguished graduate by the Boston Latin School. He is a director of the U.S. Coast Guard Foundation. He has appeared pro hac vice in cases in Arizona, California, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. He is a member of the bar in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the District of Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, the Eastern District of Michigan, the Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He assumed the title of Senior Counsel in 1994, but has continued to practice law full-time with no plans to retire. |
