W. F. (Bill) Springer is vice president for Caterpillar's Product Support Division, which is responsible for the development of Caterpillar's global product support activities. This includes new parts product development, including parts & service marketing, parts pricing, technical information publications, remanufacturing, equipment management technologies, parts & service training, dealer parts & service operational process improvements and new technologies for information products and customer support solutions.
Springer joined Caterpillar in 1973. He spent six years working extensively with Caterpillar dealers in Latin America and the Middle East as a parts and service marketing representative. In 1979, he returned to Peoria, Ill., as senior product support analyst for Market Development. He spent the next ten years in a variety of product support development and marketing roles including marketing manager for Cat Service Technology Group.
In 1989, Springer was named general manager for Cat Export Services, a parts distribution organization responsible for handling customers' direct export parts orders. Three years later, he accepted the position of district manager with Caterpillar of Australia where he worked closely with dealer senior management and large international customers. Springer became product manager for Hydraulic Excavators in Aurora, Ill.,in 1996 where he was responsible for excavator product development, manufacturing, and commercial support, working with Caterpillar marketing organizations in North and South America and Australia/Asia.
In 1998, he became President of Caterpillar Logistics Services, Inc., responsible for all third party logistics clients such as Daimler Chrysler, Harley Davidson, and Ericcson. He held this position until May 2002 when he was elected a Vice President for Product Support.
Springer holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Missouri and completed the Stanford University Executive Program in 1995. He is a board member and chairman of Aceros Fundidos Internacionales LLC (AFI) and Advanced Filtration Systems Inc. He also is a member of the Heart of Peoria Commission and active in many local charities and support organizations.
