Bill Kroener joined the Firm in 2006 as Counsel and is based in the Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles offices. He served as General Counsel of the FDIC from 1995 to early 2006. At the FDIC Mr. Kroener was legal adviser to the Chairman and Board on all matters and served as head of the Legal Division, overseeing all FDIC litigation, administrative proceedings and advisory matters, as well as the transfer of the former Resolution Trust Corporation into the FDIC and the downsizing of the FDIC legal staff. Mr. Kroener was FDIC General Counsel for six different FDIC Chairman coming from both political parties and is the longest serving general counsel in FDIC history. He also served on the FDIC's Supervisory Appeals Committee, served on and chaired the Legal Advisory Committee of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council and was on the Governing Board of the FDIC Corporate University. Mr. Kroener s law practice prior to his tenure at the FDIC focused on the supervision and regulation of banks and other regulated financial institutions and their advisers and encompassed domestic and international activities, acquisitions, financings and other transactions. During the period 1979-1994 he represented over 30 major U.S., European and Asian financial institutions, many of them among the world's largest, in the establishment of offices, implementation of financing plans, acquisitions and expansion of activities in the United States and overseas. He also served on the Board and chaired the Examining and Audit Committee of a New York bank subsidiary of a major Japanese bank. Mr. Kroener speaks and writes regularly on financial regulatory topics and has taught as an adjunct professor at Stanford, George Washington and American University law schools. He has also been active in the American, City of New York, New York State and Federal bar associations and the American Law Institute. He serves as a member of the Regulatory Appeals Committee of the Dubai Financial Services Authority. He is listed as a leading lawyer in Banking Law in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White). Mr. Kroener has served on the Stanford Law School Board of Visitors and as National Chair of the Stanford Law Fund. He also has served on the Governing Board of St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., and on the Finance Committee of the Washington National Cathedral. |
