William E. Garrity is the senior vice president of electric and gas supply for
Consumers Energy the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy. He was elected to
this position in 2005.
Garrity has overall responsibility to ensure that adequate supply resources are
available and utilized economically to serve Consumers’ electric and natural gas
customers. Under his direction the electric supply area is responsible for the
company’s electric sourcing and management of power supply resources and
transactions fuel and power supply risk management fossil fuel procurement
planning and delivery to generating stations and merchant operations including
economic dispatch and regulation of Consumers Energy’s generating plants
and purchases and sales of wholesale power. The gas supply area is responsible
for the company’s natural gas supply planning procurement and transportation
gas control and system planning gas transportation services and dispatch of
the company’s gas transmission and storage system. Garrity’s responsibilities
include the supply activities associated with the company’s gas cost recovery
and electric power supply cost recovery proceedings before the Michigan Public
Service Commission.
In 2003 Garrity was named vice president of electric and gas supply for
Consumers Energy. He was named vice president of fuels and power
transactions in 1999. He was appointed executive manager fuels and power
transactions department in 1997. In 1996 he was named director fuel supply
and plant operations department. In 1991 he was appointed director fossil
fuel supply department. He was appointed manager of engineering in 1986. In
1981 he was named section head economic studies in the modifications and
miscellaneous projects department. He joined the company in 1977 as general
engineer in the energy supply management and budget department.
Garrity earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Oakland University.
He received a master’s degree in engineering-economic systems from Stanford
University. He is a registered professional engineer in Michigan.
Garrity is a member of the Engineering Society of Detroit The Institute for
Operations Research and Management Science and a senior member of the
Institute of Industrial Engineers.
