William (Bill) C. Schwartz, Ph. D., Orval Kent Chief Food Safety Officer & Director Quality Assurance, is recognized as a quality assurance and food safety expert in the refrigerated processed foods industry. Bill is accountable for all food safety and quality assurance programs across Orval Kent’s five manufacturing facilities in North America. He brings broad experience and technical insight to manage existing programs and create industry-leading food safety technology to ensure product quality and consistency.
From 2001-2006, Bill was Vice President and General Manager, Processor Food Safety Programs for NSF International, a third party auditing and food safety supplier to food processing industry. At NSF, Bill was responsible for food safety and security auditing, non-food compound listing and food safety registrations including HACCP, ISO 22000, and SQF.
Bill served as Vice President of Technical Services for Sara Lee Branded Foods from 1994-2001, following a position as Director of Technical Services for the Armour Swift-Eckrich Company. Bill is a past president of the American Meat Science Association, which honored him with the Signal Service and Meat Processing Awards for his exemplary service.
A highly-regarded industry advisor, Bill participated on the International HACCP Alliance Board of Directors and has been served on technical groups of the National Turkey Federation, American Meat Institute and National Cattleman’s Beef Association. Bill holds a doctorate degree in Meat Science from the University of Nebraska, a master’s degree in Meat Science from Colorado State University and a bachelor’s degree in animal science and Agricultural Business from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He also has been granted a role as Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University. |
