William Tompsett is a transactional attorney whose practice focuses primarily on financing transactions and restructurings. He represents commercial lenders in secured and unsecured financing transactions; letter-of-credit transactions; interest rate, currency and commodity derivative products; participations and syndications of loans; workouts; sales of trade receivables and commercial loans in securitization transactions; and structured financings.
William has been listed in Chambers Global's "The World's Leading Lawyers" (2002-2003). He joined Mayer Brown in 1991, after serving in senior-level positions with the Law Department of Continental Bank NA (1977-1982 and 1983-1991) and with two other prominent law firms in Chicago (1982-1983) and Philadelphia (1974-1977).
Notable Engagements:
Recent Financing Transactions. Represented various banks as agent on multibank secured and unsecured loan and letter-of-credit facilities, including to manufacturing companies, distribution companies, insurance companies and mutual funds.
Recent Restructurings. Prepared documentation representing the agent in a $550 million syndicated loan, including collateral documentation, loan documentation, debtor-in-possession financing documentation and exit financing documentation, for international manufacturers of high-end, indoor and outdoor electronics enclosures. Also, represented the agent in a $200 million secured restructuring, including preparation of loan documentation and intercreditor agreement with multiple creditor groups.
