Bill Peterson, , is senior vice president/television station group for the E.W. Scripps Company. His background is in television station management and local news. Previously he was vice president and general manager of Scripps-owned WPTV NewsChannel 5 in West Palm Beach, Florida. He held similar positions at WRAL-TV, Raleigh, North Carolina; WPEC-TV also in West Palm Beach, Florida; and WTKR-TV, Norfolk, Virginia.
Before station management, Peterson’s career was in television news starting as a photographer then reporter at WSPD-TV (now WTVG) in Toledo, Ohio. He became news director at that station, and then started a cross-country tour as news director at KCST (now KNSD), San Diego; WKYC, Cleveland; WPLG, Miami; and KNBC, Los Angeles.
Peterson majored in electrical and electronic engineering at the University of Toledo, and was commissioned a lieutenant in the U. S. Army through R.O.T.C. there. He served two-years of active duty as lieutenant and five-years of active reserve duty as a captain.
Peterson was honored by the Florida Association of Broadcasters as Florida Broadcaster of the Year in 1996.
He is married to Kathleen Peterson, and they have two grown children. |
