William Barlow Neaves was elected to his seat on Cerner Corporation's Board of Directors in March 2001. Dr. Neaves is the president and chief executive officer of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City Mo. The Stowers Institute conducts basic research on the role of genes and proteins in regulating cell multiplication differentiation migration and death. Through highest quality basic research in cellular and molecular biology the Stowers Institute seeks more effective means of preserving health and preventing disease.
Before joining the Stowers Institute Dr. Neaves served more than 20 years in various positions at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas including professor of cell biology dean of Southwestern Graduate School dean of Southwestern Medical School executive vice president for academic affairs and the Doris and Bryan Wildenthal Distinguished Chair in Biomedical Science. Dr. Neaves earned his bachelor's degree in biology and his doctorate in anatomy from Harvard University. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles describing the results of his research funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Population Council.
In addition to his role on the Cerner Board of Directors Dr. Neaves also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Stowers Institute and is a professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Neaves also is a member of the Kansas City Area Development Council the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute the National Council for the Washington University School of Medicine and the Board of Trustees of Washington University in St. Louis. |
