William A. Osborn is chairman and chief executive officer and a director of Northern Trust Corporation and its principal subsidiary, The Northern Trust Company.
Mr. Osborn joined Northern Trust in 1970 and subsequently held leadership positions in the commercial banking and personal financial services business units. He was named president and chief operating officer in 1993 and became chairman and chief executive officer, in addition to president, in 1995. Mr. Osborn joined Tribune Company’s board of directors in 2001.
In addition to Tribune, Mr. Osborn is a director of Caterpillar Inc., Nicor Inc. and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Museum of Science and Industry, Northwestern University and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and serves on the board of directors of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, the Chicago Urban League, the Chicago Horticultural Society and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He is a member of the board of managers of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago and the advisory board of the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern. In addition, Mr. Osborn is a director of United Way of Metropolitan Chicago Inc., the Executives’ Club of Chicago, the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, the Economic Club of Chicago and Chicago United. He also is chairman of the Commercial Club of Chicago and vice chairman of the civic committee of the Commercial Club.
A native of Culver, Ind., born on October 14, 1947, Mr. Osborn holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Northwestern University. |
