Will Poole is senior vice president of the Market Expansion Group within the Platforms and Services Division. The Market Expansion Group is delivering software and services to dramatically increase personal computer sales in emerging markets, grow PC use in under-served segments worldwide, and drive sales of new laptops, Tablet PCs and innovative hardware solutions. The group includes marketing and R&D teams who are committed to the entrepreneurial and creative requirements of rapid innovation, pioneering new business models and supporting growth opportunities for the division and Microsoft.
Prior to assuming leadership of the Market Expansion Group, Poole ran the Windows Client business, responsible for the Windows desktop operating system used in over 750 million PCs around the world, delivering about thirty percent of corporate revenues. Before Windows Client, Poole headed up the Windows New Media Platforms Division, comprised of three fast-moving areas of the Windows business: the Digital Media Division, the eHome Division and the Trusted Platforms Technology Group.
Poole joined Microsoft in 1996 with the acquisition of eShop Inc., which he co-founded in 1991 and at which he served as president and chief operating officer. Before that, he spent five years in senior marketing and engineering management roles at Sun Microsystems Inc., focusing on advanced desktop environments and PC compatibility. Poole holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Brown University.
Outside Microsoft, Poole is an avid digital photographer, and Seattle weather permitting, enjoys bicycling and multi-hull sailing with his family. In rare moments of spare time, he builds furniture and indulges in home audio/video automation. |
