I grew up in a small town (Lake Point) outside of a small city (Tooele) outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. When I was a junior in high-school we got a bunch of Apple II computers. I learned to program first Basic then Pascal on these fine machines. In college, I attempted to leave my scientific tendencies behind (though I did end up in a Fortran class and a Unix introduction) and pursued a degree in English and concurrently Social Science. After an additional 2 years in grad school (American Studies) I decided enough was enough. Ramona, my wife, and I moved to Eugene OR where she opened up a new Barnes & Noble Superstore. I found a job at Egghead (what else can you do with degrees in English?) where I learned a little about a lot of different software. After 9 months at this retail store I left to work for Symantec. I spent a year on the phones at Symantec providing technical support to ACT! end-users. I was then transferred into Symantec’s internal training dept. I received some terrific technical education on Novell’s NetWare, Windows NT, and other Microsoft products. I was also selected to learn to deliver soft-skills training: customer service, stress management, etc. Symantec was a fantastic company. They took good care of me and I learned a lot. After about 4 years at Symantec, I decided to step out on my own. My brother-in-law, who works for Clearwater Landscaping, suggested the Wood River Valley. If you’ve read this far, I love you mom, you should probably find something more valuable to do with your time. For the rest of the story, you’ll have to wait for my memoirs to come out. I’m in negotiations with several major book publishers. |
