One of New Hampshire’s most respected attorneys, Jack is a partner at Pierce Atwood. He was a founding partner of the Hampton law firm Sanders & McDermott before joining the firm in 2003.
Jack has a broad corporate practice that includes advising professional individuals, associations, family and closely held businesses on formation, qualification, governance, business succession and management relationship issues. His experience in governmental relations and administrative law includes helping clients deal with state agencies in order to solve regulatory problems affecting their businesses, as well as in personal and professional issues. In addition to his transactional practice, he has represented clients in a variety of civil disputes including contractual and business litigation.
Jack’s other primary area of practice is assisting individuals in all phases of estate planning.
Education
A graduate of the University of New Hampshire (1959), Jack holds a J.D. from Boston College Law School (1962).
Professional Activities
Jack is vice-chair of the Judicial Conduct Committee and, at the request of the New Hampshire Supreme Court, co-chaired the Task Force for the Renewal of Judicial Conduct Procedures which re-wrote the Judicial Conduct Procedures. Jack has also served as a member of the board of directors of the American Judicature Society.
Jack is a member of Attorneys' for Family Held Enterprise (a national organization of attorneys and other consultants who specialize in representing family businesses).
Civic Activities
Long committed to New Hampshire’s business and civic communities, Jack has been involved in numerous economic development and other activities. He was founder and the first president of the Seabrook Bank and Trust Company. He was trustee and treasurer of the United States Skiing Foundation, and a member of the three-person steering committee in charge of U.S. Freestyle Skiing for the World Cup and Olympic Team. From 1979 to 1986 he was a trustee, legal advisor and vice-chairman of the board of trustees of the University System of New Hampshire.
He served as chairman of the Greater Piscataqua Community Foundation from 1994 to 1996. Jack is an incorporator of the New Hampshire Charitable Fund and Director of Odyssey House. He is Chair of the Advisory Committee of the University of New Hampshire Center for Family Business and CEO Forum.
