Wesley P. Wheeler was appointed President, North America for Valeant Pharmaceuticals in February 2003. Mr. Wheeler is responsible for the company's operations in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, where he also leads the company's global business development and marketing activities. Mr. Wheeler has extensive experience in sales and marketing, manufacturing, product management and business turnarounds. As President and Chief Executive Officer of DSM Pharmaceuticals Inc., Mr. Wheeler led the organization through a complete business turnaround by creating a new leadership team, launching new business metrics, re-branding the company, fulfilling all regulatory obligations and significantly increasing new business and profitability in a single year.
Prior to his service at DSM Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Wheeler was the Senior Vice President of Logistics and Strategy for GlaxoSmithKline plc. In this role, he was responsible for managing the manufacturing merger between Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham, which included a supply network of more than 100 plants in 41 countries. Previous to his manufacturing role, Mr. Wheeler was Vice President of Marketing for Glaxo Wellcome, responsible for antibiotic, antiviral, gastrointestinal and metabolic products. He planned and launched the first-ever direct-to-consumer product-specific advertising campaign in the United States for the treatment of herpes, repositioned legacy products, accelerated development of new products and managed post-patent sales programs for key brands, helping to increase GlaxoSmithKline's market share. In addition to brand marketing, he was instrumental in developing a world-class marketing services infrastructure for Glaxo Wellcome. Mr. Wheeler joined Glaxo in 1989 after a 12-year career at Exxon Research & Engineering Co.
Mr. Wheeler received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and earned a Master in Business Administration from the California Lutheran University. |
