Mr. Wei Zhou is Vice President of Intellectual Property and Advanced Technology at Affymetrix, Inc., Santa Clara, CA. He has been instrumental in developing the renowned Affymetrix' patent portfolio. From 2005 to 2006, as Affymetrix' China Country Manager, he has successfully led a multifunctional team to establish Affymetrix' direct presence in China and formed key strategic alliance, including a joint R&D arrangement, translational medicine centers, and service provider arrangements with China's National Biochip Engineering Centers and research collaborations with leading universities in China. Working with colleagues at corporate affairs and the legal department, he has contributed to public policy initiatives on gene patenting, industry standard setting, access to health care, patent pooling and research exemption. Prior to Affymetrix, Mr. Zhou was a patent attorney with Pennie & Edmonds LLP. He received his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech (John Lee Pratt Fellow), his postdoctoral training in molecular and cellular gastroenterology from Emory University School of Medicine and his JD from Stanford Law School (associate editor, Stanford Law Review). He is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, California courts and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit. |
